Too Cool for the Room

This is a little on the adolescent side, I know, but does anyone else dislike Ellen Page as much as I do? Maybe it's just me, but I find her smarmy, sarcastic, too-cool-for-the-room routine grating in the extreme. If I got stuck on a subway car next to that little puddle of precociousness I would walk to the other end to get away from her. Why would I want to spend 12 bucks to see her in Juno? I've tried, too. After hating her in every life-sucking second of Hard Candy, I watched her on David Letterman the other night and found her too-cool-for-the-room routine downright rude. It's DAVE. Don't get all sardonic and cute with Dave, little girl. The man INVENTED it. I'm taking a pass on that movie, at least until I can rent it and yell and throw things at the screen.

Again, could just be me.

Oh, hi...

Hello,

I'm Matt Neffer, Boy Spotwelder. This blog is currently a blog the way the Titanic is a boat -- technically it, you know, exists, but it don't see too much action these days.

To be honest it never did. I had the best of intentions when I started in, then realized that actually posting things required a certain amount of work. Meh.

But now that I'm occasionally guest-blogging or leaving comments on sites the fine Dead Things on Sticks, it occurs to me that maybe, just maybe, people might meander over here every once in a while to see what I'm talking about.

As you can see: not much. But maybe that'll change. Anyway, like Denis of DTOS, I write television, and occasionally have opinions on stuff.

Not as many opinions as Denis, of course. But we'll see.

Always Something New Under the Sun

Okay, so here's my new favourite thing. The headline actually read "Flying Start!," but if you happened across one of the many Toronto Sun newboxes this past weekend where the cover was kind of smushed to one side, this is what you saw.
Our athletes deserve better! This is an outrage! Whose embassy should I storm about this?

Kidding. I do think it's funny, though. Thanks to my best gal for the scan.
